Georgia’s First Ski Jump

Posted on 29 March 2010 by MommyKnows

We’re in Banff (Canmore) enjoying fabulous spring skiing at Sunshine Village.

This is the first winter Georgia is skiing with the family. In previous years, we’ve left her in the resort daycare.

As you can see she is doing well and very pleased with herself after her first ski jump.

HUGE contest coming up next week –> hint: you could be making your own Flip videos.

Spring …

Posted on 16 March 2010 by MommyKnows

Spring skiing that is …

The above video is Lizzy and Sam skiing the ski cross course at Norquay in Banff. They love that last jump.

We’re just home from 4 great days in the Rockies. Lizzy had a race at Norquay. What a great family ski mountain. I love the fact that you can buy hourly ski passes. It makes it affordable and very ski-able for a family with a 4 year old beginner.

It’s so much fun to watch. She is getting VERY good.

Thank you all for your emails over the past several weeks checking on me. I appreciate it.

We’re Going Downhill –> FAST!

Posted on 19 January 2009 by MommyKnows

Sam and Lizzy are in downhill racing this year. Sunday was their first race.

Here comes Sam. My first thought when I realized it was him was, ‘for the love of God, do your coat up!’ Then I snapped out of it and started taking photos.

_KIM6922 copy
As you can see, he’s enjoying the run. He was also taking in the crowd, he managed to holler out a HUGE, “HI MOM, HI DAD” as he whizzed by, which earned him a round of applause, cowbells (yep, they ring cowbells), and laughter.

_KIM6923 copy
He liked those cowbells! I’ll have to have a little chat with him about wind resistance –> DO UP YOUR COAT!

_KIM6926 copy
Go Sam Go!

_KIM6928 copy
Here comes my girl. Unlike her brother she is focused on the race, not the crowd. She skied really well.

Will ya look at that sky? It was a glorious day with temps around 5c (40+f), not a cloud in the sky. It was seriously GOOD for my cabin-fevered soul.

Go Lizzy Go!

Mr. MK is in charge of skiing, therefore, I didn’t even get out of bed when they left the house at 6:30 a.m. If I had aroused, I would have insisted she braid her hair. The rat’s nest … AHHH!

_KIM6969 copy
Then again, I was in charge of getting this wild child ready at noon, and she doesn’t look much better!

Not to be outdone Georgia managed to get in a little downhill speed herself.

It was a great day, in a fabulous city! Winter really does have it’s ups!

How was your weekend?

Holed Up!

Posted on 07 January 2009 by MommyKnows

Thanks for all the emails making sure that I am alive and well! With my memory the way it is, I’m pretty sure I would have forgotten I have a blog if you all hadn’t reminded me.

We had a great holiday filled with grandmas, grandpas, great-grandmas, uncles, aunts, great-aunts, great-uncles, cousins, baking (BAKING), presents, the rockies and even some skiing. Santa was kind, so kind that I am going to have to ‘ship one of the children to an orphanage’ or ‘purge and organize’. It’s sad, because we really, really enjoy Georgia and will miss her.

snow monster - mmmm ... (b & w)
Speaking of Georgia, this is my favorite holiday photo. Even though I came down with a chill, in early December and have had to be forced out of the house ever since, I did do a bit of skiing and went on a wee winter hike over Christmas, hence the opportunity to take an outdoor photo.

papa's hat (b & w)
Here’s my Sammy, cuter than a speckled pup in a red-wagon wearing my dad’s crazy hat.

Lastly, here’s our Lizzy aka MISERY GUTS. Honestly, too many late nights, sweets and doting grandma’s turned her into a BEAR over the holidays. Hmmm … maybe she’d do better in the orphanage than Georgia. Hmmm … I’ll have to think on that one.

OH YEAH, I bought YOU a gift in Canmore too, but I’ll tell you about it next time. Kay?

Tired, Sore …

Posted on 02 April 2008 by MommyKnows

Tired, sore, wind and sun burnt. That’s just the tip of the ice berg (pun intended).

I am shuffling around barely able to walk! I bought new boots this a.m., they are making me use muscles I didn’t know I had. I am starting to seize up — REALLY!

Sunshine - Banff National Park

I wish I could put you all on the top of the mountain, so you could see this in person. It sounds hoaky, but it makes you feel just a little closer to God. It’s breath-taking! My Fuji-pix just doesn’t do it justice.

Wish you were here.

The Great Migration

Posted on 30 March 2008 by MommyKnows

The Great Migration –> I suppose that’s a bit of an exaggeration, seeing as the new warehouse is just a couple of miles from the old location. There was NOTHING great about today! Except, the fact that it is done! We are moved in and ‘very’ organized. We have considerably less square footage at the new location, so we we were very organized before we moved. It made today go very smoothly.

YEAH!

Baby Marketplace On the Move
One of the ‘moms’ that makes www.thebabymarketplace.com ‘work’ and Lizzy working on the truck. I forgot to take pictures until we we’re 80% unpacked.

Baby Marketplace On the Move
My hero, Mr. MK. I couldn’t have done this without him. I worked ALL day today, but he has been working nights and ALL day yesterday getting the new space ready. They don’t come any better.

Baby Marketplace On the Move
Starting to look pretty good. The new warehouse has two floors. I am hoping that I loose a few pounds running up and down the stairs!

Tomorrow, we’re off for a family holiday … SKIING … yes, again! We like it, alot! I just have about 6 more loads of laundry to get done so I can pack for the trip. ARGGG!

This time we’re taking the nanny and some friends. Should be loads of fun. X’ing my fingers for LOTS of snow and mild temps.

www.thebabymarketplace.com is closed … well sort of … I’ve left the website running and I will be checking a few basic functions each evening, but we are not packing / shipping all week. I have given ALL my employees the week off. To make it up to our customers we are giving 15% off the entire product line. Coupon code is: IamPatient — if you are interested go on over and have a look.

There is a great contest starting later this week. It’s for one of my favorite ‘Rocky Mountain’ products, check back again.

Just Look at This!

Does scenery get any better than this?

Sunshine Village

Or this?

Sunshine Village

More ski stuff … sorry, but that’s all we did … ALL Day! As you can see from the blue sky, it was a gorgeous day for skiing.

It was also a day of many firsts.

Sam and I skied our first Double Black today. It was steep, full of moguls and it was treed. The Sunshine trail guide says it is one of the meanest ways down the lower half of Goat’s Eye. I’d have to agree.

It dawned on me (just prior to taking this run), while watching the kids ski moguls (much better than I can), that it wouldn’t be long before they leave me behind. It was also was clear to me that I am a pretty good skier, who lags a little in the courage department. I decided that I really need to push myself a little more.

Georgia had a big day too! She had her first lesson, rode the magic carpet on her own and skied her first run. It was cute, cute, cute! I have the video of course! I actually have about a dozen, but I won’t subject you to all of them … maybe just one or two. I’ll have to go through and pick out the best once we are home.

My favorite video of the day is Lizzy skiing the Eagle’s Nest (my favourite run). She takes her dad (the camera man) for a little surprise rie right at the end. Love it!

(Note: as I publish this post, this youtube video still hasn’t propigated?! If you can’t see it … sorry! I am hoping it will show up soon). *Update: switched to Vimeo

Greetings from the Canadian Rockies

Posted on 01 March 2008 by MommyKnows

Our first day of skiing was GREAT!

We are all exhausted.

I bought a new camera to take skiing. Something small and light that I can fit in my pocket. My D70 is just too darn heavy (and precious) to take skiing. The new camera is about the size of a deck of cards, takes OK pictures and it does video as well.
