Lay’s Chip Trip – Zoo Style

Posted on 11 July 2010 by MommyKnows

Our first of many Lay’s® Chip Trips this summer was to the Edmonton Valley Zoo.

Using Lay’s® Chip Trip points is super EASY and you can print out the savings on your home printer. In this case, for the cost of one small bag of chips (approx value $1), we saved the cost of one adult entry to the Zoo (value $5+).

If I haven’t told you before, Georgia is animal crazy. Sam is just an animal, hence the bars (I jest). With their birthdays being just days apart and having ‘animals’ in common, we decided the zoo would be a fun outing birthday outing.

This is Lucy. She’s lovely and smart. I love elephants. We started the day with an educational elephant show, no weird circus tricks, just information and Lucy participates.

Speaking of weird circus tricks, Sam not to be outdone showed us his weird thumb-bending trick. Well done son, I’m so proud.

Georgia was thrilled with a pony ride.

Lizzy was disappointed not to ride, but as you can see, she was way too BIG!

Georgia likes to think she is a wolf. She howls like a wolf, and devours books on wolves, yet she refused to pose with a wolf. Go figure.

They all loved the ‘hands on’ approach in the petting zoo.

Lizzy’s getting too old and too cool, to ride the train. Sam and Georgia are NOT.

If you’re in Canada, there is a Lay’s® Chip Trip just waiting for you. Find out more at Lays.ca.

I’m Back …

I’m Back …

Posted on 28 June 2008 by MommyKnows

OK … I’m BACK! We’ve been so busy. I’m OK healthwise … I’ll write about all the gory details some other time.

For now I’ll catch you up on the busy month of June. Some of you might remember that June is ‘Birthday Month’ in MommyKnowsVille. Last year, I encouraged you all to ‘throw a crap party’ … so that we can all breakaway from the ‘party extravagance’ that plagues us all. This year, I went a step further and we didn’t have parties – just family, cake and a best friend (EASY).

Here’s the month in pictures!

Hayley's Home
On June 14th Hayley came home from Brazil! Lizzy was overjoyed I think you can see it in this picture. (Hayley brought home a terrible rash that covered her face … I promised not to publish photo’s).

Hayley's Home - Lizzy
Did I mention that Lizzy was happy?

Sam's Eight
Sam turned eight the same day. Hayley’s return was a great birthday surprize (although he confessed he was hoping for a motor bike).

Georgia's Three
A few days later Georgia turned three. She was thrilled with the whole process. She and I baked and decorated the cupcakes (messy). She was on cloud nine ALL day.

Alberta Badlands
We didn’t have birthday parties, BUT I didn’t get away with cancelling the festivities ‘scott free’. I offered what I thought was an enjoyable and ‘less-stress’ alternative –> a family trip to Drumheller. Drumheller is the Dinosaur capital of Canada.

Dinosaur Fossil - Mr. MK & Georgia
Mr. Mk shows Georgia a fossilized hadrosaurus tibia. A guided hike from the Royal Tyrrell Museum was a hit with all the kids.

Triceratops - Tyrrell Museum
The Royal Tyrrell Museum is outstanding! Georgia is crazy about Dinosaurs.

Racing
The weekend was a family event. My parents, my sister and her family and my Grandma were along for the fun. Everybody except Great Grandma had a go on the go-carts.

Cousins
My sister and her family live in Louisiana, so these cousins are thrilled to get together!

Farm Life - Cloudy Sky
When the weekend was over … I wasn’t quite ready to head home. Georgia and I went home with my parents for a few quiet days at the farm.

Farm Life - Pond
We went hunting for tadpoles at this pretty little pond.

Farm Life - Georgia I
Along with dinosaurs and tadpoles, Georgia loves the farm … and dandelions.

We have all kinds of fun planned for July. Trips, contests and more … come back soon!

One of My Favorites (last day for the Current Bical Contest).

Posted on 20 March 2008 by MommyKnows

Can’t get enought of the Royle Family! This one of my favorite clips.

If you like British Comedy, this sitcom is a must watch!

I am having another contest! For another pair of Bical Grippers. A bit boring, but I am LAZY (been that way for quite some time … a whole life time in fact). I will draw the winner on Friday, March 21st, 2008 (@ some time). All commenters from now until draw time will be entered to win.

Would you tell a friend? Please? See that little facebook thingy just below this post? That’s a great way to tell your friends!

PS3 to the Rescue

PS3 to the Rescue

Posted on 18 March 2008 by MommyKnows

The most stressful and tense moments in our home are without a doubt, the hour before school in the morning.

Until recently Sam just couldn’t get it together. Seriously, he couldn’t get *anything* together … not getting dressed, not brushing his hair and teeth, not eating his breakfast, and he was DEFINITELY unable to come up with his toque and mitts. Many days I’d find him curled up near the bathroom register staying warm (weird but true … and yes, we do heat the house) rather than getting ready. AHHHHH!

However, since we purchased the PS3 he’s is a different wee man. Just check this out:

PS3 to the Rescue

Not only does he know where his toque and mitts are … he has them ON! Priceless!

He was so excited the first night we had it. Turning it off and going to bed was extremely painful. When he asked me if he could play before school (we don’t allow tv or computer before school), I felt sorry for him and knowing that he’s never been ready and organized for school in his short little life, I said, “sure, BUT only if you are ready”.

He has been ready every morning since. I am sure there is literature out there that says “gaming” before school isn’t good for you. It can’t be any worse than your mother screaming like a BANSHEE and threatening to ring your neck, right?

Oh, the peace! Screw the literature.

Do you do anything you sort of ‘know’ you you shouldn’t just to keep the peace?

We’ve Got a Rock Band

Posted on 04 March 2008 by MommyKnows

We bought our first game system today (ps3) and the Rock Band game! Family night now hits a whole new note (pun intended). We love it!

Rock Star
Sam rocks!

Unfortunately, I didn’t get ANY work done because of it.

There’s always tomorrow …

Watercolors

Posted on 10 February 2008 by MommyKnows

Yesterday, out of the blue, I decided we’d ALL paint (Mr. MK too). Nope, not the walls, on paper just for fun. This is VERY, VERY unlike me! The children looked shocked.

Generally, I discourage arts and crafts (until the sitter arrives) due to the mess and general chaos! I am not sure what came over me?! It might be the 30 Tiny Moments, forcing me to be a little bit more creative and look at things a wee bit differently. There I go, getting all artsy-fartsy on you.

By the time we were set up and I had explained the strict watercolor bylaws rules to Sam and Liz, Georgia had fallen asleep on the couch. YAH! Oops, did I say that out loud? (Sorry Georgie)

What rules? Well, you know the standard painting strict watercolor bylaws rules –> make sure your brush is clean before you put it in a new color, because if you use black and then put it in the yellow and get it dirty; I’ll have to beat you with a BIG stick. If you rinse your dirty brush in my clean water, then I’ll beat you with the BIG stick again. Keep your brush on your own paper. No arguing. No yelling. No whining (SAM). It sounds like a barrel of laughs, eh?

30 Tiny Moments – Day 1

Posted on 29 January 2008 by MommyKnows

Inspired by Amanda Soule, Kerflop has started “30 Tiny Moments” – a project to capture the ‘right now’ of family life using photos of the ‘real’ little moments each day (for thirty days).

I thought Amanda Soule’s photos were terrific and decided Kerflop was on to a good thing. Seeing as I am doing blog365, why not, right?
