The winner is: Jen B – Please email me Jen @ kim (@) mommyknows (dot) com to claim your prize.

It was Sid the Science Kid to the rescue @ MommyKnowsville this week. I am still fighting what is now a week long headache. Tuesday a.m. to keep Georgia still and quiet, I popped in Sid the Science Kid DVD from the folks at the Jim Henson Studios. WOW … for three straight days, it’s all she’s wanted to watch.

Over and over she’s we’ve watched the first two episodes of SID THE SCIENCE KID a new educational animated television series that premieres September 1, 2008, on PBSKids (check local listings).

Normally, we don’t watch a ton of TV (yeah right), however, a mom’s gotta do what a mom’s gotta do. When that means turning on the ‘boob-tube’ to make it through a few sick days, you do it. There’s a lot less guilt involved when you can turn on a quality program that promotes exploration, discovery and science readiness.

Yep, science for preschoolers! The program is based on the curriculum of Preschool Pathways to Science (PrePS©), SID THE SCIENCE KID delves into children’s natural curiosity about science in their everyday lives.

I love doing product reviews, this time it’s been a hoot to have Georgia join in the review fun. She’s a girl of few words.

Me: Georgia, do you like Sid the Science Kid?
Georgia: YEAH, YEAH, YEAH! (each YEAH was accompanied by a jump and a clap). Definitely a ’2 thumbs up’.

Do your kids watch PBSKids?

All comments and back-links for this post will be entered to win a $10 Starbucks Gift Card (includes shipping and handling). If you comment and blog about the contest you’ll receive two entries (too easy). I have a whole ‘schwack’ of Gift Cards to give away, so make sure and come back often for a chance to ‘have a coffee on me’.

Yes, we love PBSKids here, too, Fetch! with Ruff Ruffman is a favorite, and so is Cyberchase. Go figure! I hated math as a kid, and I have to constantly remind myself that my kids might not have the same fear of numbers as I did! Looking forward to Sid the Science Kid, especially now that you (and Georgia) have given it such a great review.

Sounds like a great show! I wish we had it here. In fact, I wish we had SKY (like cable TV) but we can’t afford it, so we only have 4 (yes, FOUR) channels to choose from. Needless to say, my kids prefer DVDs.
This Science Kid looks and sounds like a winner to me.

We love PBS kids at our house. It was really great when we didn’t have cable. This new show looks promising. Hopefully it won’t come on during nap time.

We don’t watch a lot of PBS kids. Although growing up it was my favorite channel. It’s mostly Disney and Nickelodeon or Noggin at our house. We do sometimes watch Clifford or Curious George.

Peep and the Big Wide World on the computer is our favorite. We are never up in time to watch it on the Discovery Kids channel.

I am SO excited about this show. I am a former science teacher and love that the Henson team has made something like this. My mother actually showed me an ad for the show and we have all of our DVRs ready to go for the premier Monday. They are showing the first four episodes in a two hour block!

My son watches Word World on PBS every so often and used to love Curious George. Now he is much more interested in Noggin and still adores Disney. I hope that he loves this new show.

What a wonderful idea. He is a cute character. Since it says our country’s students are falling behind in Math and Science, the earlier children are exposed to those subjects, the better! Yes, PBS Kids is big in our home. I sure hope your headache eases up on you. Take care, Cindi

Hmmmm…I’ve never heard of ‘Sid the Science Kid!’ With my two older ones now in school, this would be a good one to let my 2YO watch!

(PLUS, I’m SO TIRED of MAX AND RUBY!!!)

The only channel we get is CBC so the kids do watch some kids programming occasionally on there. Usually just curious George. We don’t turn ont he TV very often and the kids need to be totally ready for school/daycare before the TV goes on, which means it rarely happens in a week!

We love PBS Kids. I just posted my favorite Sesame Street Video this morning, then saw your post about Sid the Science Kid. Perfect timing… so I told my readers about your contest:-) http://livinglocurto.wordpress.com/

We are big Noggin watchers also. My kids love Max & Ruby. That’s what they are glued to while I make dinner. Not my favorite, but they crack up.

oh yes we do! PBS is great. i grew up watching some great programs (seasme st., mr rogers, the old school Thomas the tank engine, voyage of the mimi, ghostwriters, the electric company, and of course Reading Rainbow) they always have awesome shows that I find just as much fun to watch as James does. Hey, we all need our dose of Curious George weekly. Hope u feel better.

That show looks really great. I wish we had PBS. We have peasant-vision, so our kids only get KidsCBC. I’m sure they would love it though.

We’ve seen Sid the Science kid and like him. We aren’t to sure if the little ones are really ‘getting it’, but they enjoy it, and if a few facts manage to soak in so much the better. We’ve also had good experience with little einstein, though again, I’m not sure how much really sinks in.
