The proof is evident in reading English literature from late 1800s and early 1900s. This is a great post. I think one contributing reason could be that our educational system is in trouble. I think that we should protect the proper usage of our language, but we must also allow it to grow. As an example, consider all the French words that crossed over into English - possibly a result of the Norman Conquest - and the present day attitude of some European governments wishing to keep their language "pure." I welcome new words and new functions for them, because it will inject life into our language, as it should.
