THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THAT!
DEBUTS ON PBS KIDS® THIS LABOR DAY
A couple of weeks ago, Georgia got out of bed about midnight and wandered in my room and woke me up to tell me, something REALLY important. “Mom in three weeks there is a new show on TV about the Cat in the Hat, and I want to watch it!”
SERIOUSLY!? Go to sleep child! Sheesh!
A couple of days later I was asked if I’d be interested in seeing a preview. Ah, yeah!
Life’s funny that way …
Georgia was lucky enough to get a preview dvd of the first two episodes.
Voiced by award-winning actor Martin Short, Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat guides friends Sally and Nick – with a little help from the Fish, Thing 1 and Thing 2 – on fun-filled adventures where they make natural-science discoveries, from how bees make honey to why owls sleep during the day.
Just what does she think about ‘THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THAT!’? Well let’s just say, we’re watching it for the 3rd time (TODAY!). She likes it A LOT.
I enjoyed it too! I love Martin Short (voice of the Cat in the Hat). The graphics are excellent and true to the original books. I love that it’s science based.
Great job PBS! Don’t forget, THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THAT! premieres Monday, September 6th on PBS KIDS.
Would you love to experience a high alpine meadow, but just can’t quite see yourself climbing the 3000+ ft of mountain to get there?
Then the Sunshine Meadows shuttle is the Lay’s® Chip Trip for you ($21 value for 20pt = 2 large bags of chips). You catch the bus at the bottom of the Sunshine Village Ski Resort and it takes you up the main lodge area. From there, there are several hikes you can take.
There is still some uphill hiking, so you’ll get lots of exercise, but you are now in the alpine zone and the views are outstanding.
We arrived home from our Rockie Mountain vacation late last night. I think it was shortly after midnight. Sam had been sleeping, but perked right up when he saw the Shred Sled® waiting on the front step.
We let him open the box before sending him off to bed. He was up and practicing in the dining room before I was out of bed this morning.
By 2 o’clock this afternoon, he was looking like a pro!
Truthfully, we’ve always been a Heinz Ketchup family. On the other hand I’ve been trying very hard to keep our family eating ‘real food’. I’m trying to cook with simple ingredients and avoid a lot of processed foods. All that said, we like ketchup and we like healthy, so I was more than happy to try out Hunt’s 100% Natural Ketchup.
The good news, not one person noticed the new ketchup. It tasted great, just like ketchup. When I questioned them, it was unanimous, they liked it. Thanks Hunt’s I now have a healthier ketchup for my family.
To celebrate that their new ketchup now features just five simple ingredients, no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial ingredients and no preservatives, Hunt’s is giving moms a high-five to celebrate by hosting Hunt’s High Five Family Photo Fun Contest and invites Moms to submit pictures on their Facebook page depicting family accomplishments and simple victories. To enter, visit http://www.facebook.com/Hunts for a chance to win a family vacation (up to $5,000).

I think our brutal Canadian winters make us Canadians REALLY appreciate summer. I love that my kids can’t get enough of the outdoors, so when I was asked to review the ‘Backyard Safari Outfitter’ products, I thought they’d be a good fit for my family.
They arrived last week the day before Georgia’s birthday. Being the cheapskate that I am, I wrapped them up to give her as gift.
I thought about handing them over to Sam, but I thought that he might be a bit too old. WOW, was I wrong. The minute Georgia opened the box Sam was all over the Bug Vacuum.
Georgia and I just spent a lazy morning crafting bookmarks for Father’s Day. They were inspired by the FedEx Out of Office blog. From gift and craft ideas to spring cleaning and party planning tips, the blog provides innovative projects that anyone can tackle. With Father’s Day and the summer right around the corner, Out of Office features tips on how to turn photos and children’s artwork into great presents and fun craft projects kids can create on their own. The blog also has weekly round-ups of some of the best project ideas from around the Web.
The men in our family are all readers, so Georgia is making her Daddy and Poppa bookmarks for Father’s Day. FedEx Office Out of Office blog has a quick and easy project idea – personalized bookmarks! This is a great craft project for kids to make and can be made with anything and everything from old photos or wrapping paper, to magazine clippings or scrapbook paper remnants.
We used the following to get started:
• 4 templates
• Ribbon
• Stickers
• Crayons
Start by cutting out your bookmark template. Next, gather craft supplies and get to crafting! For inspiration, check out the cute bookmarks shown as examples on Out of Office: http://outofoffice.fedex.mediacdt.com
There are tons of other great crafts with templates at the FedEx Out of Office blog. I know Sam will enjoy making the Kites (me too!).

Well, we were going on a Lay’s Chip Trip this weekend … until it SNOWED! ACK …
Though our summers may be short (ah … understatement of the century). We Canadians LOVE the opportunity to celebrate the season right in our own exceptionally fabulous backyard. You know I hate to brag (I DO!), but I just know our backyard kicks your backyard’s A$$. Oops … did I really say that on ‘Live’ blog? EEK!
The Lay’s Chip Trips program has been developed to give Canadian families a simple
way to enjoy summer at home without spending a bundle. Here’s how it works:
Simply pick up a specially marked bag of Lay’s Chips. Each bag is worth between 3‐15 points depending on the bag size. The most popular bag size is worth 10 points. It’s also my favourite size to eat (LARGE)!
Of note, the two new flavours, BBQ RIB and CHEDDAR AND SOUR CREAM are worth double points! You’ve got to try the BBQ Rib – no crockpot required!
Visit Lays.ca to create an account and then enter the unique code that you’ll find on the back of the bag. You can enter as many codes as you want and start to bank your points. Don’t let the sign up process hold you back … it’s QUICK and EASY!
Use your points to claim great discounts on fun things to do with your family and friends all summer long.
The great thing about this program? It’s EASY. You don’t need to collect a whole shwack of points to get started. In fact, just one bag of Lay’s chips is enough to start claiming great discounts right away! FREE entrance to our local zoo is just 5 pts!
You’ll find discounts on everything from restaurants and hotels to local attractions and amusement parks. You don’t have to live in a big city to enjoy the rewards. There are hundreds of local attractions offering great discounts in cities and towns across the country. In fact, the Canadian Tourism Commission is one of the key sponsors! There’s truly something for everyone!
EVEN BETTER –> to get you started, sign up at Lays.ca and use this special code: MOMMY‐KNOWS and receive 10 FREE pts (more than enough to get you started … FREE entrance to our local zoo is just 5 pts). This offer ends May 31, 2010 — don’t miss out!
I am participating in the Lay’s Chip Trips program by Mom Central on behalf of Frito Lay. I received Lay’s Chip Trip points and a gift card to offset my trip costs to facilitate this post. The opinions on this blog are my own.
Lizzy plants her seeds. (psst … she’s grumpy because I made her put a rather new and flavourful baseball-sized hunk of gum in the garbage {sheesh}).
Georgia waters her seeds. An hour later she was pretty sure she saw them growing. HA!
The kids have been talking a lot about Earth Day at school and understand the importance of ‘Trees’ and the environment. Sam explained to Georgia that trees make oxygen for the earth. Then Georgia wanted to know if it was easier to breathe in the forest than in the middle of a big empty field.
You’ve gotta love kids, eh?
We’ve been using/testing out ‘green’ paper products (toilet paper, paper towels and tissue) from Majesta for several weeks now and love them! They also provided us with the seed card to allow us to plant our Earth Day spruce trees.
I wanted to let you know that:
This Earth Day, Majesta gives Moms across Canada the chance to win a $15,000 Green Makeover for their home. All you have to do to enter is visit www.majesta.com. This promotion ends June 27, 2010.
I’ve entered several times now! If I win, we’re going to put a green roof on the house. By green I mean soil and plants. We have a flat(ish) roof and I think it would look fantastic.
What would you do with $15000 Green Makeover from Majesta?
You naughty ladies! I said, “Over or Under?”, not “Top or Bottom?”.
Step aside Teams Edward vs. Jacob & say hello to the new great debate: Over vs. Under brought to you by Cottonelle.
Personally, I am an over girl (can’t do the little hotel triangle if you’re an under!), but I’m very rarely the one putting the paper on the roll. That job belongs to Georgia (age 4) and she doesn’t seem to have a preference yet.
Cottonelle brand toilet paper recently conducted a survey to get to the bottom of this great debate raging across America. Though I never stopped to think about it before Cottonelle brand’s Roll Poll, I realized I roll over every time (it prevents extra sheets from ending up on my bathroom floor.) Well it turns out I’m not alone: over 70% of Americans polled say they roll over too, for reasons ranging from “easier to pull,” and “doesn’t hang down” to “it just looks nicer.”
In response to the Roll Poll results, Cottonelle brand developed a new softer, stronger toilet paper, designed to roll with everyone’s preferences. As a long time toilet paper user (bwahaha), I appreciate that they understand that quality, softness and durability all matter to many Moms like me. What better way to announce the results of this great debate than to make Cottonelle even better!

Pick me! Pick me! My husbands new job has taken us far away from family. I’d love to be able to share the everyday with my mom and dad and brother. Thank you for the opportunity. Fingers X’d.
Congratulations Layna!
NOTE: sorry for taking such a long time to get the winner posted. I’ve had a busy week.
There’s a few places like skiing that my big Nikon D300 camera just can’t go (or other more expensive video camera’s). Like our recent ski trip! The kids love this one of them doing the ski-cross.
The Flip Video how ever is so small and easy to use I take it everywhere. If I can’t find it it’s usually because Georgia’s nicked it and made a video of her very own. Usually of her tonsils (?! yep, it’s weird), so I won’t share.
Anyway I love it so much, I bought one to giveaway to one of you. It’s the one one in the picture up there.
If you think you might like to own a Flip Video Ultra, just leave me a comment letting me know why you’d like a Flip video camera or tweet about this contest. Each comment and tweet will be counted as one entry.
I’ll randomly choose a winner from all the entries on Friday, April 9th about noon’ish!
