Back in Dubai

Back in Dubai there’s a sun and it shines there all the time! Not only is that statement the absolute truth, it’s also the lyrics for an old 1970′s song by Sal Davies called ‘Back in Dubai’.

This is the only digitized version ON EARTH (as far as I can tell), have a listen :)

I think all this bitter cold we’re experiencing has me longing for some sun and sand. I’m nostalgic!

Back in Dubai
Hey! There’s your cousin (and his driver).

It was pretty much a standing joke that when ever we passed a goat or camel on the road, my Dad would tell my brother, “Hey, there’s your cousin!”. It never failed to get a rise out of my brother. Do you have those silly family jokes that never fail to BUG / get a laugh, even though they are old and tired, not even funny?

What I wouldn’t give for a goat, a camel, a sand dune and just a little bit of ‘back in Dubai’ today.

I love the sunshine, but I also appreciate some cloudy days! Thanks, Cindi

I wish I could send you some summery weather! It’s been nice here lately, although rain is forecast for the weekend. As much as I love summer, I have to say I’ve always wanted a White Christmas … so I’m a little envious of the snow I’ve been reading about on lots of Northern Hemisphere blogs :-)

nice. a favorite running joke for our family was whenever we drove past a shack or really really (really) run down looking house, “hey, look! it’s Jenn’s future house!” I have no idea how that got started, but oddly enough it never offended me. Still not sure why…i think i’d be offended now.

That’s funny, my snookey and I do that all the time, only I don’t say, ‘there’s your cousin’, I say, “there’s your girlfriend”.

What a great way to start this cold work day by listening to ‘Back in Dubai’. Still a great song about a great place!

Thanks for making my day, Kim.

Oh Kim!!!!

How fantastic!

I haven’t heard that for AGES and what a trip down memory lane! I loved it and have just made Al and Ewan listen to it (and “Life in the Emirates” – remember that one?) very loudly!

THANKS!!!

Just found your blog.

I am an Edmontonian (?) living in Al Ain. We are moving back to Edmonton in June after 7 years here. I am scared shitless! I keep telling myself how great it will be…..

Wanted to let you know it has been so foggy lately. But had a fantastic NYE camping trip under the desert stars.

When it’s winter and it’s snowing, I think it’s appropriate and the snow is fun.

I like snow better than sunshine too. I thought I was the only one.

It hasn’t been above freezing here for a week. It’s sad when I feel like returning to a job in Dubai instead of vacationing in Pennsylvania!

I lived in Dubai from 1976 to 1980 and we used to sing this song all the time when I was young. Now I am looking into moving back to Dubai for a few years and remembered this song so I looked it up – for sure I wasn’t going to find it :) After 20 odd years I could still sing along and brings up lots of memories! Maybee I just needed to hear this song to defenately decide to go Back to Dubai :)

Thanks!
